There's always that one spot at any job, regardless of the company, the industry, or the people. The spot where you go to vent. The spot where you spill the office tea. The spot where you share the good news, the positive performance review, the promotion that finally went your way, or the small win nobody else would get quite as excited about as your best friend at work.
That spot is almost always the watercooler.
And that's where we come in. Watercooler Stories is your watercooler — one that isn't tied to one office, one industry, or one company. A place where anyone, anywhere, can lean in and go "you're not going to believe this."
True stories from real working people: the wins, the weird bosses, the meetings that should've been emails, the days you go home and just stare at the wall. All anonymous — because the honest version of a story is the one you'd never put your name on.
No corporate gloss. No bitterness. Just work stories, told the way you'd actually tell them.
Anything we write runs under The Watercooler — like the piece you're reading now. Anything a reader sends in gets its own number — Story No. 001, then No. 002, and so on. We'll add segments to the routine as we go.
And if you've got a story of your own:
Your secret's safe at the watercooler. Send it in. We'll trade names for roles, companies for industries, and scrub anything that could give you away. Every story gets read by the Watercooler staff and a light edit if needed — never enough to strip away what makes it your story.
Just choose your sign-off based on how you felt that day:
Sincerely, [Feeling] in [Your City]. Example: Overworked in Omaha. Finally Free in Fresno. Promoted in Portland.
And you're done.
So join us — there's always room at the watercooler.
Sincerely, The Watercooler
